H & W Sports Shop fire

Thursday night a local business in downtown Campbellsville was struck by lightning and caught fire. It was such a crazy night.

I was luckily enough to be home to be able to react to the scanner call and head down pretty fast.

Spot news can be such dramatic events but they can make for the most beautiful images.
I think some of my favorite images come from spot news events. I have to think on my feet more and try and make a "routine" scene engaging.

Lightning still filled the sky as crews were batting the blaze. I was able get to some of the most amazing lightning photos that night.

Not to mention I also wrote a 1,300 word story the next day. Boom. (And yes that is my headline)

Weekly post: 6/3-6/10

Oh hey! I was late this week. My bad!

I really don't have a lot of different assignments to post but I have a lot to post from a few assignments.

Ya'll the fair was just in town. I haven't had a fair in forever. I love it. So many community features are to be shoot at the fair. Not to mention that we had mutton busting- which for those who don't know, that is small children riding a sheep like a bull. It was amazing. I've wanted to cover mutton busting forever.

Also the Distinguished Young Women program happened. This is a scholarship program. It is interesting. I've never one to be a pageant person. But when I hear the stories from the winners that this is a tradition for them to be in because their sisters, mothers and grandmothers have done it. That small town tradition I like and respect.

In this edition of 'What did Kaitlin shoot last week':
• Rodeo
• Distinguished Young Women
• Fair fun

Caley James, above, rides the Eclipse with her friends. Some highlights from the week include the rodeo, drag racing, mutton busting and the start of pageants. View more photos online at www.cknj.com.
